Why are there two high tides a day?

The moon's gravity pulls water into a bulge on the side of Earth facing it, and a second bulge forms on the opposite side. As Earth rotates through both bulges, most Indian coasts get two high and two low tides roughly every 24 hours and 50 minutes.
